Green Onion Consulting provides Social Work supports to adults, including individual and group therapy, education and training, and, occasionally, coaching and clinical supervision.
Social Workers understand, and acknowledge, that Mental Health encounters are often triggered by social problems, such as income insecurity, employment, abuse, stigma, racism, sexism, ableism, isolation, or homophobia.
Green Onion Consulting focuses on personal and social wellbeing, grounded in the Social Work values of fairness, social justice, advocacy, and human rights. Our approach considers the whole person, including strengths and needs, and offers tailored solutions and support that align with individual environments, preferences, and abilities.
Why “Green Onion”?
The name, Green Onion Consulting, arrived almost like a light bulb, but also after considerable reflection.
Green because the colour green (our favourite!) is healing, calming, and motivating. Colour Psychology suggests that green also promotes stability, endurance, and balance.
Onion because we are drawn to the analogy of peeling back the onion, to see the layers beneath. Incidentally, Social Work Onion-Peeling theories talk about peeling back layers of human experience to see how these layers influence who we are today, and by increasing our awareness of these influences, and understanding their origins, it becomes possible to engage in conscious change and growth (Connelly and Harms, 2011).
